#PLAN FOR Building EVACUATION REVISED EFFECTIVE March 31, 2021
FIRE EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
When discovering fire in the building:
- Go to nearest fire alarm box and activate the alarm.
- Dial 911 to report the fire.
- Get everyone out of the immediate fire area.
- If feasible and fire is small, get the nearest fire extinguisher and discharge it on the fire.
- Isolate the fire area by closing all doors and windows to cut off oxygen supply.
When hearing the fire alarm:
- All persons should evacuate the building using the nearest available exit away from the fire area.
- Necessary evacuation assistance should be given to anyone in need.
- Of special concern is the need to check the building to be certain that all individuals have received the information that a fire alarm is occurring and to evacuate the building immediately. Supervisors will exit via the central staircase to provide assistance.
- Do not use elevators.
- Do not hesitate, but walk — do not run; avoid crowding and panic.
- Descend stairs with special care and give assistance to anyone in need of it. Evacuated persons shall gather outside the building on the north side of Watson Powell to be accounted for and be given further instructions.
NOTE: All building occupants should familiarize themselves with the locations of fire alarm boxes, fire extinguishers, fire evacuation routes/exits, and evacuation chairs. ### FIRST FLOOR - FIRE EXIT DOORS
Fourth Street exit is to be used by front office, Director’s Conference Room, and Aids & Devices. If this exit is blocked, use the Powell exit or the nearest one away from the fire.
The Powell exit is to be used by library staff at front desk and in rooms 116-120. If this exit is blocked use the south fire exit.
The Assembly room and Mail room will exit through the Mail room. If that exit is blocked they will exit out the south west fire exit.
Rec. room — Rooms 102, 103, 105, 106, and 107 use south central fire escape located at southwest corner of Rec. room or central staircase. ** OC Director
FIRST FLOOR - FIRE BOX PULL STATIONS
On the west wall at the south end of the hall way near room 120.
On the east wall across from the women’s bathroom.
On the south wall of the assembly room to the west of the southwest fire exit.
On the west wall to the south of the loading dock exit at the northwest corner of the building.
Between the switchboard and the interior doors at the top of the stairs leading to the Fourth Street exit.
At the bottom of the east steps on north wall.

Southwest fire exit door (#339) located through #336 office down and exit into south alley. Walk east through alley and north to cross Watson Powell.
Northwest fire exit door located north of filing cabinets — down and exit through the Watson Powell Jr. Way entrance.
Southeast fire exit door located south of office 326 — down and exit into south alley. Walk east through alley and north to cross Watson Powell.

On the West wall to the south of the NW fire exit door (by the file cabinets)
On the East wall to the north of the SW fire exit door (336)
On the East wall to the north of the SE fire exit door (Across from office 326)

Library stacks (third floor down, off pass-through elevator) — internal stairwell to basement through the industrial arts shop fire exit.
From accounting area on the south of the building — south fire door.
Central area — from #415 north — central stairway to 4th Street.
Cassette stacks (second floor, #213, 213A, and 213B) — south fire escape (#214) to 4th Street FOURTH FLOOR - FIRE BOX PULL STATIONS
